Francois Grey is a physicist with a passion for citizen science. Since September 2014, he is Professor at the University of Geneva and Coordinator of the Citizen Cyberscience Centre (CCC), a partnership between CERN, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research and the University of Geneva.

The CCC develops technologies that lower the

barrier to entry for online participatory science and promotes the use of these technologies in developing regions through hands-on training.

The CCC helped launch citizen science projects that use open source platforms for crowdsourced computing and thinking like BOINC and Crowdcrafting.

Francois was based at Tsinghua University in Beijing from 2008-2013, where he helped launch the Computing for Clean Water project in collaboration with IBM's World Community Grid.

This was China's first large-scale volunteer computing project, dedicated to developing better technologies for water filtration and involving 150,000 participants.
