The first US-born child of Vietnamese refugee parents, Florence Thinh was inspired by her father’s sheer will as he recreated his medical career from the ground up after escaping on the last day of the Vietnam war. Growing up in silicon valley Florence was drawn to technology at a young age. By the time she was in college her love for people and passion for technology were perfectly suited for the world of recruiting. She wanted to serve others by bridging them to opportunities that would propel their lives and create change in their organizations. As soon as she completed her undergraduate degree, Florence joined TEKsystems, the nation’s largest IT contingency firm, where she spent over six years helping place candidates across silicon valley. She was passionate about her choice of career from the very beginning, setting far-reaching goals for herself and investing time in understanding and coaching candidates to make the best possible matches. Florence was consistently ranked in the top percentile of the firm’s recruiters, receiving the firms’ “President’s Club” honor for four consecutive years.
Next, Florence made her first forays into the corporate recruiting world with positions at Google and not-for-profit ELM Resources. These experiences gave Florence appreciation for what can be accomplished by optimizing processes around an organization’s culture.
In the summer of 2008, Florence herself was recruited to join Zynga, a venture-backed company at the forefront of developing social games. As Zynga’s first member of People Operations, Florence and her team were responsible for scaling the organization from 40 to 3,000 employees, and ultimately building one of the best talent pools in Silicon Valley. This success was due to her team’s thoughtful, strategic approach – infusing a recruiting mindset into the organization’s culture; coaching managers on interviewing and hiring decisions; establishing valuable tools and processes for engaging and evaluating candidates; and maniacally measuring results to learn from successful and unsuccessful outcomes.
In addition to assisting her portfolio companies, Florence enjoys connecting with other industry thought leaders and has spoken at industry events like Talent42 2012 and LinkedIN Talent Connect 2011.
Florence joined Khosla as an Operating Partner to drive recruitment strategy across Khosla Ventures’ portfolio of companies. She helps entrepreneurs by giving them the tools and insights to be successful in today’s competitive talent landscape, ensuring that their employees will make a long-lasting impact on their businesses.
Florence graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of California Santa Cruz. In her spare time, she sees the world through her daughter Khai’s eyes, is an information addict, a concert junky, and an avid snowboarder.
