Entrepreneur and business leader Eric Schames has achieved a level of success that belies his age. The Los Angeles, California native has been the guiding force for several lucrative business ventures in the healthcare field. He has won the attention of industry professionals in a number of tech sectors for his innovative thinking, natural
leadership abilities, and drive to succeed. Today, Eric works at the Principal for the business advisory service and startup Launchpad StartupLoft in the greater Los Angeles area. He is also involved in philanthropic activities in several U.S. cities.
Education
Eric is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He enrolled at the school in 1999 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2003. His undergraduate education was in art history, criticism, and conservation, which may seem unrelated to the world of business. However, critical thinking skills and developing a mastery of complex relationships were the hallmarks of Eric’s UCLA experience. He would apply these tools to the business ventures he founded in the coming years.
Immediately after completing his undergraduate degree, Eric became a student at the Washington University in St. Louis School of Law in Saint Louis, Missouri. The private university there has one of the leading law schools in the country, according to several prominent publications like US News & World Report. Eric earned his Juris Doctorate at the university in 2006.
Early Business Ventures
Eric practiced law for several years following his graduation from the Washington University in St. Louis. While he found the legal profession rewarding, he was eager to try new things, and so entered the world of business. Relocating to the Los Angeles area, his first role was as a transaction manager for a large real estate firm. Eric worked with the Travers Realty Corporation for almost four years before moving on to establishing his own businesses.
Entrepreneurial Projects
His first entrepreneurial success came in 2010, when he founded MedLien Solutions. As the CEO of the firm, Eric was instrumental in driving the company toward rapid growth. MedLien specializes in medical practice management and handles billing and collections for Workers’ Compensation physician offices across the United States. Starting with a handpicked team, the company quickly grew to become a dominant force in healthcare administration.
In 2014, Eric left MedLien Solutions to establish another innovative healthcare management firm called OPUS Telehealth. Also located in the greater Los Angeles area, OPUS is focused on developing patient-driven telehealth platforms. It concentrates its efforts on Workers’ Compensation medical practices, enabling medical providers to assess and monitor the health of patients anywhere in the world. Just like in his previous ventures, Eric’s impeccable leadership and his extensive knowledge of the healthcare management field gave the company the guidance to grow. Today, the company employs over 100 professionals as it continues to expand its services.
StartupLoft and Business Launch Advisory Services
In 2016, Eric Schames founded StartupLoft, a business advisory service and incubator for early-stage business ventures. Located in the city of Los Angeles, the company provides expert guidance in helping small companies launch successfully. Among its many services, StartupLoft assists with the development of crowdfunding campaigns as well as in cultivating traditional sources of capital. Businesses across sectors like healthcare IT, wearables, and financial technology have leveraged Eric’s skill as an entrepreneur, resulting in many success stories in the company’s first year of operation. Today, the firm employs a team of business experts, strategic consultants, and computer programmers.
Philanthropy
Eric believes in giving back to the communities in which he lives and works. He has donated time and finances to several charitable organizations in the Los Angeles area and in other cities in the U.S. Recently, Eric and his wife Debbie were financial sponsors of a hospitality house at the Illini Chabad Center at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. The project, entitled the “Bubby Bevy Hospitality House” in honor of his grandmother, Beverly Deutsch, provides hospitality services to University students and their families. Eric’s leadership and vision made the hospitality house project possible.
