Eric Gerstenfeld is Executive Vice President and CTO of Meta Healthcare IT Solutions, LLC and is one of the two founding partners of the company with Sal Barcia. Gerstenfeld has lead Meta successfully through four pharmacy conversions, writing more than seventy percent of the initial one himself. Meta also passed certifications for ARRA Stage 1 and
ARRA Stage 2 under his capable leadership. He currently supervises all of the technical staff and project managers; he initiated and has been deeply involved in all eMAR, CPOE and clinical documentation development in MetaCare Enterprise Rx.
Prior to Meta Healthcare IT Solutions, Gerstenfeld worked for a highly regarded New York hospital as an application programmer/analyst. After three years, Gerstenfeld left to work for a hospital software vendor where he took part in system integration, implementation and interfacing as well as project management. He eventually became the lead analyst and lead programmer for their mainframe-based PCS-ADS pharmacy software product and went on to help hire and work with Sal Barcia. When IBM discontinued support of PCS-ADS, Gerstenfeld together with Barcia branched out to start a new company and began building a pharmacy product from the ground up.
One of the most important ideals Gerstenfeld has learned in this field has been from Barcia: build the best product you can and the rest will fall into place.
Gerstenfeld has a B.A. in Sociology from the City University of New York. He is a self-starter and has been involved in a number of diverse startup businesses. He has also been a co-director since 1992 of a non-profit organization which facilitates and helps to run educational and experiential activities both locally and internationally. Gerstenfeld is an avid reader and has a love of composing original music.
