Dr. Lynch completed his PhD at the University of California, Berkeley, where he mapped the first human gene for hearing loss, DFNA1 with Dr. Mary-Claire King. During his post-doctoral studies at the University of Washington, he cloned DFNA1 and DFNA15. He helped to identify and characterize the first genes for breast cancer (BRCA1) and brain cancer
(PTEN). He was a Research Assistant Professor in the Division of Medical Genetics at the UW and served on the 1999 Strategic Planning Committee of the NIH, Division of Deafness and Communication Disorders. In 2000, he left the UW to become the Vice-President and Director of Research at Otogene. He left Otogene and co-founded SPI in 2001. Dr. Lynch has over 15 years of experience in cancer and hearing research and drug development.
