Prior to the founding of Messner & Smith in 1984, Mr. Smith owned and managed his own investment advisory firm, Ellis C. Smith Investment Counsel, which was established in 1974. Prior to founding his own firm, he was the Portfolio Manager and Administrator for the retirement fund of a large California construction company.
Mr. Smith
graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Business Administration, University of California Los Angeles in 1965. He also has pursued graduate studies at San Diego State University and served as a graduate teaching assistant.
In addition, Mr. Smith served as a commissioned officer in the United States Naval Reserve. He has served as Chairman of the Board of the San Diego Downtown YMCA and President of the Executive’s Association of San Diego.
