Dr. Wei Yang is the Chief Scientific Officer of GV20 Oncotherapy. Before joining GV20, he was the Director of Target Discovery of the Institute for Protein Innovation (IPI), where he led the Target Discovery and Antibody Discovery teams. He oversaw the state-of-the-art antibody yeast display platform, with which more than 3000 highly specific
synthetic human antibodies to over 150 validated or potential therapeutic targets were generated. Prior to joining IPI, Dr. Yang was the Director of the Molecular Biology Department at Novo Nordisk Research Centre China. He was also a Project Manager and a member of Antibody Focus Group in Global Research at Novo Nordisk. He led an international team that constructed a comprehensive expression library consisting of all human secreted proteins, single and seven transmembrane cell surface proteins. By screening the expression library, the team identified the previously unknown receptors for GDF15 and VISTA, which are potential therapeutic targets for obesity and cancer, respectively. He also led a project team that developed a robust process for the industrial-scale production of recombinant DPP1. DPP1 is a tool enzyme for the production of therapeutic human growth hormone at Novo Nordisk which covers more than 25% of the world market. He also led the antibody phage display platform of Novo Nordisk, with which more than 1000 fully human antibodies to multiple therapeutic targets were successfully generated. Dr. Yang received his Ph.D. in Cell Biology from Peking University and conducted his postdoctoral research at Harvard Medical School.
