One of the most significant milestones in his career was taking the helm at Western Illinois University (WIU) as its President. During this period, he presented unprecedented financial challenges at the state level, necessitating exceptional leadership skills. Tasked with managing a budget nearing $224 million, he navigated the institution through these turbulent fiscal waters with grace and understanding. Despite the financial constraints, he successfully increased diversity, formulated new academic programs, and significantly strengthened ties with businesses, local communities, and K-12 educational systems. His fiscal wisdom shone brightly during Illinois' state financial crisis. Under his stewardship, WIU managed to maintain operations and successfully opened a new campus in Moline, Illinois. This tenure also witnessed the completion of a multi-million dollar capital campaign.
