A graduate of the Medical College of Georgia's School of Dentistry, Dr. George Snelling worked as a dentist in Augusta from 1975 to 1998 before retiring to spend time with his late wife. Although he still does charity dentistry, Dr. George Snelling's primary involvement in the medical field post-retirement was through his executive status
with the Georgia Medical Center Authority, of which he was appointed chairman for two consecutive four-year terms by then-Governor Sonny Perdue.
A former board member of the Home Builders Association of Augusta, George Snelling has spent much of his post-retirement career managing his real estate investment portfolio, which included profitable properties such as the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame, which he transferred to the Medical College in 2012 for the purpose of transforming the city's downtown core.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Dr. Snelling is a passionate philanthropist who contributes to a variety of local causes and serves as vice chairman of Goodwill of Middle Georgia. He also supports the University Healthcare Foundation, the Augusta State University Foundation, and the University of Georgia Athletic Association.
