Doug Boysen earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Northern Iowa. He continued his schooling at the University of Iowa, where he earned a juris doctorate and a master's in health management. By participating on the Alumni Board of Directors for the Master of Health Administration programme, he has
kept his ties to the University of Iowa alive. Boysen spent several years as an associate with Von Briesen, Purtell & Roper in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a renowned health law company. Later, he worked at Legacy Health in Portland, Oregon, as assistant general counsel for more than five years. In 2006, Boysen became a vice president and general counsel for Samaritan Health Services. In 2012, he was elevated to vice president general.
