Dirk Schaper, born 1966, studied at the Rheinisch Westfälische Technische Universität in Aachen, Germany and completed his diploma as Civil Engineer in 1993. He joined HOCHTIEF Construction AG in 1994 as Site Engineer and later as Construction Manager for several building projects. 1998 he worked in one of the HOCHTIEF Group companies, Thiess Pty
Ltd in Australia to build up international construction experience and practise being part of the large Sydney Domestic Terminal Redevelopment Project team in 1999 and 2000. After his deployment in Australia he worked in Corporate Head office of HOCHTIEF AG in their Corporate Development department with several Innovation Projects. From 2003 he was responsible for the HOCHTIEF Innovation Key Subject ViCon (Virtual Design and Construction). From 2007 to 2017 he was Managing Director of HOCHTIEF ViCon GmbH, a subsidiary of HOCHTIEF Engineering. Since 2012 he is Speaker of the Supervisory Board of “buildingSMART e.V.”. He is also a Board Member of Building Smart International and also actively participating in the VDI BIM Coordination Group. In 2018 he co-founded ProMaterial GmbH, a new software platform for the construction industry.
