Derrick Brown is the Sr Director of Technology Operations and Interoperability at Portland Public Schools. He served as the Chief Innovation Officer for Evergreen Public Schools (EPS) in Vancouver, Wash. He is part of the superintendent’s cabinet providing collaborative strategic vision for Technology Services and EdTech. EPS educates nearly 27,000
students and employs 3,300 people. Derrick earned a B.A. in English Literature from Virginia Commonwealth University and his M.B.A. from Keller Graduate School of Management. His career spans 24 years in various roles including CIO/CTO of Pulaski County Special School District, Sr. Project Manager for Portland Public Schools, and other capacities in state and federal government agencies, healthcare and telecom.
EPS is making strides to transform to a digital instructional ecosystem focusing on personalization and ensuring schools, students, and staff have equitable access to technology - including learning devices, software, and infrastructure. With greater access to technology also comes the shared responsibility to work together to help students understand how the digital world works.
