Based just outside of Washington DC in Chevy Chase, Maryland, Derek Fromson is the Principal of Digital Dominoes, serving as a senior digital strategist for Fortune 500 clients, international development organizations, and nonprofits on strategic planning, branding, communications strategy, stakeholder expertise, and engagement. Combining insights
from more than 25 years in communications with experience in print and digital journalism, corporate communications, higher education, and international development, Mr. Fromson works with clients such as the International Finance Corporation, the World Bank Group, N2Growth, Coca-Cola, Korn Ferry, and the Council on Foundations to tell better stories, express ideas more creatively, write clearly and succinctly and present more confidently, tailored for the appropriate channels and audiences. These characteristics are essential to strengthening relationships, building credibility and trust, motivating and inspiring teams, and leading effectively – skills vital to success.
Before forming Digital Dominoes in 2016, Derek led the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization as the Director of Communications, in all matters related to Corporate Communications, including digital strategy, social media, public affairs, multimedia, publications, design and brand integrity of the Organization. Guiding a team of 30 communications specialists, he supported staff engagements across the Western Hemisphere. His team's campaigns boosted PAHO's visibility and spanned bilingual social media campaigns in maternal health, noncommunicable diseases, natural disasters, and universal health coverage. In 2015, he received the International Human Rights Day Award for promoting health as an outgrowth of basic human rights.
Prior to joining PAHO/WHO, Mr. Fromson served as Head, External Digital Communications, Open Financial Data, Controller’s Office at the World Bank where he led the design, development and management efforts of the Controller’s external/internal communications and online social platforms on financial open data through collaboration with stakeholders for the World Bank Group Finances team.
Earlier, from 2004 to 2012, Mr. Fromson was a senior manager and consultant with Korn Ferry in Los Angeles, where he oversaw web communications in tandem with global marketing. Mr. Fromson spearheaded Korn Ferry's digital footprint, leading seven redesign projects while establishing cohesive brand messaging and standards and enforcing style and editorial guidelines that amplified positive brand awareness.
Mr. Fromson started his professional career in writing and editorial roles as a journalist with newspapers in Mexico and the U.S., including Reforma in Mexico City, the Washington Post, and the Los Angeles Times.
Mr. Fromson earned an Executive MBA from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California, with an emphasis in Executive Leadership, a Master's in City and Regional Planning from Cornell University, with an emphasis in International Development, and a Bachelor's in Political Science with a minor in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley.
