DeLane Fitzgerald was born and raised in Nelson County, VA; and lived there from 1976 to 1995. He played football, basketball, and baseball growing up. He attended and played football at Potomac State College from 1995 to 1997 and at James Madison University from 1997-1999. He was the head football coach at Southern Virginia university form the
years 2009 through 2013.
