Debra recruited and trained a small team of volunteers in early 2008, and lead the team from concept to site launch in under four months. Debra spearheads all major projects at Long Distance Voter, serves as its primary web-developer and manages most of its day-to-day affairs.
Debra’s responsibilities include strategic and operational planning;
technical development; search engine optimization and targeted search engine marketing; communications and public relations; outreach and alliance programs; staff recruitment and training; website content development; and routine comprehensive information quality checks.
Debra continually looks for ways to simplify absentee voting for domestic voters, and has taken the unusual (but well-received) step of creating absentee ballot applications for eight states that did not already have formal applications.
Prior to founding Long Distance Voter, Debra acted as a national director for Swing the State, an online resource that matched volunteers with voter mobilization efforts in swing states. Swing the State was recognized as one of the most cost-effective groups to emerge from the 2004 elections.
Professionally, Debra is a seasoned product manager, with over 6 years experience delivering best-in-class consumer facing web products. Debra was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY; educated at Pomona College, CA; and currently lives in Los San Francisco, CA.
