David Kirkpatrick is the author of _The Facebook Effect_ and an organizer of the Techonomy conference. Previously, he was the senior editor for internet and technology at _Fortune Magazine_. He specialized in the computer and technology industries, as well as in the impact of the Internet on business and society. His book, _The Facebook Effect_, is
about Facebook's history and how it is changing behaviors across societies worldwide, was recently published. He maintains a blog at facebook.com/thefacebookeffect.
Kirkpatrick began writing about computing and technology for _Fortune_ in 1991. In May 2008 he published "Microsoft After Gates," a definitive account of Microsoft's prospects and challenges as its founder stepped away. Other recent _Fortune_ features have examined MySpace, Second Life, and Technology in China. Known for his weekly "Fast Forward" column on a wide range of tech topics, Kirkpatrick is regularly ranked one of the world's top technology journalists.
He created _Fortune_'s Brainstorm conference series in Aspen starting in 2001, and in July 2008 was program director for Brainstorm Tech, a multi-disciplinary event in Half Moon Bay, California.
Kirkpatrick appears regularly at conferences worldwide and on TV, radio, and Net video. He is a member of the World Economic Forum's International Media Council and the Council on Foreign Relations.
