David J. Powsner is a partner at Nutter, McClennen & Fish, LLP, where he focuses his practice on advising high-tech companies on intellectual property.
Dave is particularly known for his legal work in an extensive number and range of successfully patented technologies, his assessment of patent claims, and his counsel in trademark, trade
secret and copyright law.
With an MIT degree in physics and extensive early work experience as a computer programmer, David has advised companies on patents and intellectual property covering a range of technologies, including graphical user interfaces, multi-operating system and multiprocessor architectures, machine vision, geophysical signal processing, distributed content discovery, lotteries/gaming, manufacturing process control, mathematical modeling of business decisions, packet switches and telephony, storage area networks, consumer electronics, xerographic copiers, loudspeakers, maglev conveyance systems, medical treatment and diagnostics, xerographic toners, industrial cleaning solvents, and polymerase chain reaction apparatus, among many others.
Dave is a member of Boston Harbor Angels, an "angel" investing group that backs high-growth, early-stage companies. He is also a principal organizer of the MIT Enterprise Forum's Software Entrepreneurship SIG, a group Dave co-founded almost a decade ago. Through these organizations and others, he has coached hundreds of startup companies, including an emerging entertainment and media company for which he is a member of board of directors.
