David is the Technical Programme Director at AWE. He is responsible for AWE’s pivotal role in the through life management of the UK stockpile. Prior to this position, he was the Programme Operations Director and Deputy Managing Director of the Lockheed Martin facility (previously Hunting Engineering) at Ampthill in Bedfordshire. David assumed this
post in 2006, where he was responsible for the profit and loss account, the company’s operating plan and all aspects of company programme delivery. David was also responsible for integrating Hunting Engineering plc into Lockheed Martin post acquisition by Lockheed Martin Corporation.
David holds a Ph.D. in High speed aerodynamics and radioactive heat transfer, an MSc in High speed turbo machinery and a BSc (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering from Cranfield Institute of Technology.
David has worked in a wide range of fields in the defence area, including general management, project management, systems engineering, full system development, software development, and manufacturing and complex trials management. In his earlier career, as the Future Concepts Director, David was responsible for the company’s interests in Ballistic Missile Defence, Strategic Deterrent and conventional defence research an d continued to deliver innovative solutions to the needs of the UK and US government customers, including being actively involved in the successful ‘hit to kill’ intercepts tests currently being performed by the US Missile Defence Agency.
