David Etherington is President of Connected Signals, Inc., which he co-founded in 2010. Connected Signals gets real-time traffic-signal state information from cities, adds geo-spatial, timing plan, and phase map information, and develops sophisticated predictive models. The resulting data is made available for a variety of applications aimed at
making driving safer, more fuel efficient, and less stressful.
After receiving his PhD in Artificial Intelligence from the University of British Columbia in 1986, David became a Member of Technical Staff in the Artificial Intelligence Principles Research Department of AT&T Bell Labs, in Murray Hill, NJ. In 1994, he left Bell Labs to co-found the University of Oregon’s Computational Intelligence Research Laboratory (CIRL), which he directed for many years. In 1998, he became president and co-founder of On Time Systems, Inc. (OTS). OTS specializes in optimized solutions to routing and scheduling problems, including developing and maintaining the aircraft routing software that routes most of the USAF’s cargo missions, which saves the Air Force approximately 20M gal. of jet fuel annually.
