Dave was born in Kelowna, B.C., Canada on March 2, 1936 to parents Rae George and Ruby Beryl (nee Staples) Ritchie. He is the youngest of six children, including brothers Ken Ritchie and John Ritchie—the other two founders of Ritchie Bros.
