David Black has spent years cultivating professional relationships and creating pathways to help achieve company and client goals in each place he has endeavored. It has been through these years of hard work and an unparalleled love of the daily grind that has allowed Black to continuously grow each company he has worked for and created.
Following David Black’s graduation from the University of Michigan with a dual degree in Political Science & History, he quickly realized his passion for finance and investment after joining the team at StreetAccount, which is involved in the real-time equity market space. It was in these formative years that Black first encountered the financial markets he would quickly become passionate about and work closely with a growing client base. During Black’s tenure with StreetAccount, it became obvious that he wanted to create something out of his own vision that would provide a deep connection with clients while also delivering every step of the way.
After numerous years and many successes with StreetAccount, David Black would launch his own firm, Quadra Advisors LLC in 2014. While leaving a firmly established company to create something of your own could create a predictable amount of stress, Black applied all the knowledge he had acquired over the years and channeled that into a fearless business strategy. Having created an outstanding client base over the years who wanted to continue their working relationship with Black, Quadra Advisors was profitable from the beginning.
While personal success is paramount in the alternative asset management world, Black has always focused on the success of others. Holding the belief that treating others fairly and always being transparent leads to greater success for all, David Black has been able to help his clients achieve their financial goals with a personable touch. When paired with his natural love for financial markets, these two qualities have always been a consistent aspect of what has made the businesses Black has worked with a cut above the rest. In 2018, Black transitioned to Balyasny Asset Management (BAM), where he took on the title of Executive Consultant and beginning in August 2020, Managing Director in Business Development. While leaving the firm that he had built from the ground up was difficult, Black could sense that there was something exceptional going on over at BAM. As evidenced by BAM’s recognition as one of the best workplaces to work in the financial services industry, Black was correct.
During his time with BAM, David Black has continued to utilize the strategies that have helped him and his clients achieve their goals throughout the years. With a tremendous emphasis placed not only on outcomes but on the resources and culture that are present within the company, Black has been working tirelessly to realize and carry out the company vision while continuing to branch out and grow. Throughout all his years in the alternative asset management industry, Black has always maintained his desire to give back and donate his time, energy, and efforts wherever possible. Black has been involved since 1993 with Outward Bound which is a worldwide organization that provides over one million children, young adults, and veterans each year with personal development opportunities through a vast array of activities and programs.
In addition to his activity with Outward Bound, Black has also spent numerous years with the Global Health Corp, fundraising for The Robin Hood Foundation, helping young adults from all walks of life realize and achieve their career goals with the Year Up organization, and with UNICEF’s Drive for Zero effort. David Black is also extremely passionate about the conservation of wildlife and the environment and has been a loyal and steady supporter of the Nature Conservancy. In his free time, Black enjoys spending time in the great outdoors, whether it be skiing, fishing, or mountain biking in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
