David Bangs considers himself an “Impact Investor” and is looking for strategies to ensure his whole portfolio is invested in ways that promote a more just and sustainable world. This requires innovation and new approaches. Since early stage Cleantech companies can take many years to achieve an exit, Energy Friendly Holdings favors deals in which
capital can be returned during the course of normal business operations, such as investments in companies that will distribute profits or which agree to repurchase shares from investors out of a small percentage of revenue (Royalty Redemption).
David, principal at Energy Friendly Holdings, lives near Seattle with his wife and two daughters. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1985 with a degree in Electrical Engineering and went to work as a software developer at Microsoft where he went on to manage several groups. After leaving Microsoft, David decided to focus on problems related to climate and energy. He received an MBA in Sustainable Business from Bainbridge Graduate Institute, joined the Northwest Energy Angels (now Element 8) and founded a non-profit called Home Performance Washington to promote whole house energy efficiency programs in the state.
