Darryl has been Chief Executive of LDC since 2003. Over its 30 year history, LDC has built an excellent track record based on a strong UK regional network, proprietary deal origination, proactive post investment operational value add and a clear investment philosophy which focuses on backing outstanding management teams.
Over the past ten years,
LDC has invested £2.2bn in 140 companies. This portfolio of investments is expected to deliver gross IRRs of around 30%. Exited investments over this period have delivered upper quartile returns.
Since 2008 LDC has begun the development of an international footprint, opening an office in Hong Kong. This will provide significant value add to the UK portfolio whilst also providing a spring board for creating a direct investment business in the Far East over the medium term.
By way of background, Darryl is a UK Chartered Accountant and has worked in private equity for more than 25 years. He passionately believes that sustainable success is built on a relationship-based approach and a reputation for being trusted, fair minded and commercial. He is also a strong advocate of the role private equity should play in supporting local communities – the ‘LDC in the Community’ initiative, developed in 2005, has raised more than £1.8m for UK, regional and international charities.
Darryl is a non executive director for a number of LDC's portfolio companies including Learndirect and A-Gas and a Guardian of The Birmingham Assay Office.
