Daniel Verwaerde was appointed Managing Director of CEA as of January 28, 2015. Born in 1954, Daniel Verwaerde is an engineer, graduated from the Ecole Centrale de Paris and auditor of the 32nd session of the Centre for Advanced Studies armaments (CHEAr).
Specialist in numerical modeling, Daniel joined CEA in 1978 at the Military Applications
Directorate, in the Department of Applied Mathematics, which he provides leadership in 1991.
In 1996 Daniel became Director of the Simulation program, designed to ensure the sustainability of deterrence after the final adoption of nuclear tests. In parallel, from 1998, the High Commissioner for Atomic Energy asked to extend its activities to the development of simulation in major CEA research programs.
Director of the Center CEA / DAM Ile-de-France from July 2000, Daniel participated in the implementation of the policy of openness of the major means of simulation in the civilian community, particularly through the creation of the Ter @ tec project designed to promote digital computing "high performance".
In January 2004, Daniel became Director of Nuclear Weapons CEA / DAM. In this capacity, he manages all programs Weapons Simulation, especially project management Megajoule Laser.
Daniel was appointed Chief Military Applications April 3, 2007. In addition to programs Weapons Simulation, he is responsible for nuclear propulsion programs, supply of strategic materials, the fight against nuclear proliferation and programs entrusted to conventional weapons CEA.
