Dan began working for an estate attorney at 16 years old and graduated to a downtown Chicago law firm at 19. There he prepared tax returns, managed the Principal’s real estate portfolio, and provided business and estate planning. Dan also has experience as controller for +$350mil construction firm, as a CFO in publishing, and as a Comptroller in
hazardous waste. He attended Valparaiso University and Northwestern University, and received a Bachelor Degree in Accounting and an MBA in International Finance from DePaul University. In 1990, he left other employment to run his own accounting firm full time. Dan is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant and Certified Financial Planner. His breadth of experience enables him to see the big picture and integrate all the pieces to his clients’ benefit. Dan and his wife, Deb, have two sons. Their son, Matthew, manages Hawtree & Associates’ Frankfort office.
