As CEO of Rutland Mental Health Daniel Quinn was able to bring about big changes in the way mental health issues were addressed by the state. In fact, he was able to expand mental health services to include inpatient services throughout the state in brand-new facilities through the use of funds raised by a non-profit organization he helped to
found.
While working at Rutland Mental Health, Daniel Quinn discovered the sad truth: Vermont's mental health infrastructure was sorely lacking in certain services, particularly inpatient services for the treatment of dementia or Alzheimer's patients, those with drug or alcohol addictions and those needing full-time residential care. He determined to address this issue by creating a way to fund these needed services. Unfortunately, the state was largely unwilling or unable to appropriate funds, so he took matters into his own hands.
Using RMH as his base of operations, he banded together with other mental health professionals, interested legislators at the state and local level and private citizens and companies who wanted to help. Their collaboration resulted in the creation of a non-profit organization founded as a limited liability corporation. This corporation then raised funds to pay for the needed medical services.
Today, mental health services in Vermont are better than ever, thanks to the hard work of these dedicated people. By raising funds to build in-patient mental health service centers, many citizens of Vermont are now getting the treatment they need and can live much fuller and more productive lives.
