Cole Morell is an American entrepreneur and product builder based in Orange, California. He is the founder and CEO of Layout, a Square-native mobile app platform that enables multi-location coffee shops and local businesses to launch branded ordering apps without changing their existing POS, KDS, or loyalty systems.
Cole began building digital
products and producing media in high school, working with local businesses, non-profits, and event teams across California. He later expanded into professional production roles with Illuminate Production Services and Bayside Church, operating industry-standard systems including RED Komodo, Sony FX6, and DJI Ronin 4D. This early exposure to real-world operations shaped his focus on building practical, revenue-generating tools for businesses rather than purely aesthetic solutions.
In 2023, Cole founded Layout and transitioned from client services into product-led infrastructure. Layout integrates directly with Square’s ecosystem, syncing catalog, orders, and loyalty data through a Firebase-backed architecture to deliver fast, reliable mobile experiences. The platform is designed to give independent operators and regional chains access to enterprise-level mobile infrastructure without switching systems or retraining staff.
Cole is also the creator of Siply, a health-tech iOS app that uses machine learning to estimate container volume and track daily hydration through Apple Health, demonstrating his technical depth in applied ML and mobile engineering.
He studies Business Administration at Chapman University, focusing on entrepreneurship and product strategy while actively scaling Layout. Cole’s work centers on building infrastructure-level tools that combine clean design, operational reliability, and strong distribution for underserved vertical markets.
