Talented, prolific and versatile film composer Charles Bernstein eclectic musical style ranges from comedy to drama to action to horror. Bernstein supplied the scores for many down 'n 'dirty 70's drive-in exploitation features: That Man Bolt, Invasion of the Bee Girls, and White Lightning (a snippet of this score was used in the Kill
Bill Vol. 1 soundtrack).
Bernstein's scores in the horror genre are especially chilling and effective: Among his finest fright film scores are Hex, Sweet Kill, The Entity (nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Music), Cujo, Wes Craven's A Nightmare on Elm Street, and April Fool's Day. Moreover, Bernstein has done scores for a large number of made-for-TV movies.
Bernstein received an Emmy for his score for the Little Miss Perfect episode of the CBS Schoolbreak Special, Emmy nominations for Enslavement and The Sea Wolf, and a Cable ACE Award nomination for Original Score for The Man Who Broke A 1,000 Chains. In addition, Bernstein won an ASCAP Deems Taylor Award for his writing on music. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Board of Directors of the Society of Composers and Lyricists, and the Board of Directors of the ASCAP Foundation.
Charles Bernstein has taught on the graduate film scoring faculty at USC and holds an annual film scoring seminar in the summer at UCLA Extension.
