Carsten Thiel, Ph.D, is President of Europe for EUSA Pharma. Previously he served as Senior Vice President, Europe/Middle East/Africa & Asia Pacific of Alexion where he was responsible for driving the Company’s global commercial operations in these regions, including maximizing the current portfolio as well as guiding the launch of
anticipated new products and indications. Mr. Thiel had also managed the regional and global functions located at the European headquarters in Switzerland.
Carsten Thiel attended the prestigious Max Planck Institute For Biophysical Chemistry, an elite research organization in Germany. Specializing in molecular biology, Thiel studied proteins involved in the morphing of healthy cells into cancerous cells. Thiel earned his PhD, and entered the workforce post-matriculation via the highly innovative pharmaceutical giant Hoffman la-Roche.
Prior to joining Alexion, Mr. Thiel served as Vice President, Head of Europe at Amgen from 2011 to 2014. In this role, he led regional operations and was responsible for 10 products in hematology/oncology, nephrology, and bone disorders, and prepared for new product launches in inflammation and cardiology. Mr. Thiel also held various other senior leadership positions at Amgen, including General Manager, Germany, and General Manager, CEE, where he led all markets in Eastern Europe and established the company’s operations in Russia. He also served as Head of the Oncology Franchise in Europe during the time of several blockbuster product launches. Prior to Amgen, Mr. Thiel held several sales and marketing leadership roles across Europe at Roche.
After his initial foray into launching new products, Thiel excelled within this role throughout several years, launching many breakthrough innovations throughout various niche fields of the medical sector. Believing in the credo that these new treatments would assist thousands of patients, Thiel continuously sought ways to provide meaningful aid to all individuals through training prescribers, and ensuring unparallelled quality control standards.
