Brock’s education in quantitative logic and his passion to impact the world around him led to certification as a Black Belt in Six Sigma and a Guru in Lean Practices. He led continuous improvement efforts for Martin-Brower where he utilized his education and training to focus primarily on process innovation and cost control within the McDonald’s
food supply chain. During this time Brock developed a mathematical model that demonstrated that major economic movers were causing the established supply chain to regress back towards local production. Compelled to investigate alternative practices, Brock quickly realized that the urban farming industry could provide a long-term solution. However, as an industry, there was a lack of emphasis on cost control and reducing entry barriers.
