As CEO of simPRO Software, I focused on delivering whole of business operational workflow gains to construction contractors. Our success in helping contractors manage and grow their businesses enabled the growth of simPRO from it's Brisbane Australia roots to operations in the US, UK, and NZ.
During my tenure I delivered over 1,000% recurring revenue growth in 5 years and took the team from 45 people to 250 across 5 countries.
Prior to simPRO, I founded mobility software startup Datateq, solving the productivity and compliance gap of construction sub-contractors in the pre-smart phone era. Acquired by simPRO.
As an innovator and tech guy I'm continually drawn to the construction sector. It is after all an $8 trillion industry that lags most in digitization, where large projects typically run 20% behind time and 80% over budget, where productivity is stagnant at best and in decline at worst.
Although lagging most industries in tech, there is growth in software, the global construction software market expected to grow at a CAGR of 13.70% until 2021.
This growth is fuelled by increasing skills shortages driving up labor rates, and in the SME and Mid-market, just the sheer number of greenfield sites that have no operational software in place (52% of construction companies still use pen & paper and 32% use only spreadsheets). These challenges combined with poorly integrated point solutions are creating opportunity to integrate solutions to remove the data silos and increase productivity across all parts of the construction workflow.
