Southwest, that he co-founded in 2004 along with a sports apparel company. Billy’s athletic career began in Hooks, Texas, where his high school football performance gained national prominence. Recruited by several major universities, Billy ultimately chose the University of Oklahoma., where in his junior year, he was awarded the prestigious Heisman Trophy. In1980 he became the first draft pick for the National Football League (NFL), going to the Detroit Lions, where he started his pro football career. As a star running back, he was named NFL Rookie of the Year and contributed to a winning 9-7 season for the Lions compared to a previous season win-loss record of 2-14. Following his retirement from professional football in 1985, Billy split his time between sports marketing enterprises, volunteering with non-profit organizations and managing Billy Sims Barbecue. In 2012, Billy teamed with several prominent Detroit area business leaders to found ACCR, L.L.C., a private investment firm spearheading a number of initiatives including Billy Sims-China Food Group, a Michigan-based food hub developing and manufacturing dairy and other products for the China market.
