Professor Bertil Andersson has spent 11 years at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore where he has led the development of academics and research. Since July 2011 Bertil Andersson has been President of NTU in Singapore and during the period prior to this (2007 – 2011) he was Provost of the same university. He stepped down as President

on the 31 December 2017. He has radically transformed the university to a top-level institution that is today ranked 11th in the world and number one in Asia (QS). Among other things, he was a driving force in establishing its new Medical School and he has made NTU the choice for several Singaporean and international industries. In addition, he has been involved in several advisory roles to the Singapore Government particularly with respect to the establishment of a new university and being a board member of ASTAR and BCA. From 2004 to 2007 he was the Chief Executive of the European Science Foundation (ESF) in Strasbourg. During 1999-2003 he was the Rector (President) of Linköping University, Sweden. In 2003 he was elected Rector of Stockholm University, a position he did not take up due to his assignment to the ESF. He was appointed Professor of Biochemistry at Stockholm University in 1986. Bertil Andersson has been a member of a high number of Swedish and international foundations, learned societies and academies. He has been a member of the Nobel Foundation (2000-2006) and was, from 1989 to 1997, a member of the Nobel Committee for Chemistry (and its Chairman during 1997). He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Nobel Foundation until 2010. In the period 2004 to 2007 he was the Vice President of the research advisory board of the European Commission (EURAB). He has also been a research advisor to the Swedish government. Currently he is a Board of Trustees member of the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. Bertil Andersson is a visiting Professor and a Fellow of Imperial College London. In addition, he has received over 20 honorary doctorates from top level universities all over the world. He has received numerous honorary degrees and prizes including the Wilhelm Exner Medal in Vienna, the President’s Science and Technology Medal and The Meritorious Service Medal in Singapore. He has published about 300 scientific publications mainly in photosynthesis research. His papers have been cited 14 000 times and his H-index is 67. Professor Andersson has had many interactions with Israeli academia and supported conference schemes in Israel. Bertil Andersson is currently serving at the Board of Technion University and a co-chair of its Academic Committee. He is a Senior Advisor to the President of Hebrew University, He was in 2011 awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree at Hebrew University. He has had several direct interactions with Israel Minister Bennett on matters related to research collaboration and student exchange between Israel and Singapore. He has also in collaboration with the Mayor of Haifa, Yona Yahav, established a Singaporean-Israel hub for student-based innovation.
