Benoit Bergeret is the founder and CEO of two pioneer companies in the mobile imaging space: Qipit, Inc. in San Francisco and Realeyes3D S.A. in Paris.
Benoit launched Realeyes3D in 2003 with the vision that "camera phones can do more than take pictures". Since then, Realeyes3D has become a recognized leader in the mobile imaging
space, developing innovations such as mobile document scanning, camera-based handset egomotion estimation, and 1D bar code reading. Realeyes3D technologies have been adopted by handset vendors world wide, with over 110 million phones shipped as of end-2009.
In 2006, Benoit launched Qipit Inc in San Francisco, with the intent to expand the market reach of Realeyes3D technologies beyond the handset, into the cloud (www.qipit.com) and on the enterprise market.
Realeyes3D and Qipit have garnered significant attention from the industry, winning awards such as Mobile Monday's Global Peer Award, Red Herring Top 100, DEMOgod, and more.
Benoit has been living in San Francisco since 2007 and has become an active member of the tech scene in the Bay area.
Before launching Realeyes3D, Benoit developed a broad tech experience, holding international management positions in the hardware, software and services businesses, in Europe and in the U.S.A.:
- Vice-President, Strategy & Marketing, for Telisma
(www.telisma.com), a leading speech recognition software vendor spun off from France Telecom.
- Director, Service Providers, Netigy Corporation (a San Jose based e-business infrastructure consulting firm, backed by Cisco).
- Director, Sales, for Lucent Technologies’ Software Product Group (formerly Kenan Systems Corporation, now a division of Comverse: www.kenan.com, acquired by Lucent Technologies for $1.4bn).
- Director, Marketing, Systar (www.systar.com, a software vendor specializing in quality of service and business processes surveillance)
- Benoit also spent several years in the U.S.A. in the 1990's as Director, OEM sales, for Groupe Bull’s Open Systems Division.
Earlier in his career, Benoit contributed to various technology projects as an artificlal intelligence scientist, including:
- An in-board knowledge-based real-time flight assistance system for the pan-European ‘Rafale’ jet fighter. Published in “Les Actes d’Avignonâ€, AIIA’87 (1987).
- An automatic order processing system for Luxembourg’s Arbed (steel manufacturer) using visual character recognition and lexical / semantic analysis technologies (1986).
Benoit holds a « diplôme d’ingénieur » (equivalent to a U.S. Masters’ degree) in Computer Science (major in artificial intelligence) from Université de Technologie de Compiègne (France, 1987), and a degree in Theoretical Physics and Chemistry from Université Paris XII (Orsay, France, 1984). He has been educated in business and international marketing at Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales (HEC, 1989) in Paris (France), and at the American School of International Management (Thunderbird, 1995) in Phoenix, Arizona (U.S.A.).
