Benedict Peters is the founder and CEO of the Aiteo Group, a leading Nigerian energy company in the international oil and gas industry.
Peters was born in 1966 in Nigeria and received his undergraduate degree in geography and regional planning from the University of Benin. Following graduation, he gained professional experience in banking and
assumed senior executive positions in commodity trading and in the energy industry.
His first position in the Nigerian oil and gas industry, was in the early 1990s as a founding member of Ocean and Oil Limited, a publicly listed petroleum trading and exploration company which later became known as Oando.
In 1994 Peters became managing director at MRS, a prominent Nigerian downstream petroleum company that owns the Chevron/Texaco gas stations of in West Africa.
After five years at the head of MRS, he left to form his own company - the Aiteo Group - a successful broad reaching power and energy company that supplies oil and gas products to markets around the world and conducts major resource exploration projects. Aiteo Group is active in both the upstream and downstream sectors of the industry. It is fully operational in all aspects of bringing petroleum products to market, including extraction of raw materials, manufacturing and processing, and marketing and delivery of refined petroleum products to customers across the globe. Aiteo has become one of the largest and most successful corporations in Nigeria and a principal player in the global oil and gas industry. It owns the largest oil storage facilities in West Africa and has provided employment to 11,000 people to date.
As founder and CEO, Benedict Peters is the driving force behind the Group. He oversees development and management of the corporation’s strategic plan and manages overall execution of its goals and objectives. His work is guided by values of inclusiveness and sustainable development and a profound focus on business leadership and talent development.
In 2014, Leadership News Nigeria named Peters “CEO of the Year.” He received this honor due to his trailblazing contributions toward solidifying Nigeria’s ability to control its own natural resources.
Peters is also involved in initiatives outside of the corporate world. In 2012, he was appointed chairman of the Otuoke University Council. As chairman, he manages implementation of the council’s strategic objectives and policies.
In 2014 he became founder and chairman of the Joseph Agro Foundation. The foundation's mission is to improve the standard of living for the thousands of farmers in rural areas. Among its focus areas are reducing unemployment, improving educational facilities and carrying out public campaigns to educate farmers about responsible water usage.
