From a very early age, Basil Ghali had a passion for knowledge. Growing up, some of the most influential people in his life were medical professionals, and this exposure helped him develop a keen interest in following the path his mentors forged. His ultimate goal is to make a difference, regardless of the field. As he moves toward achieving his
goal, Basil has already accomplished much in his career, reaching significant milestones and mastering valuable skills he can use in his bright and successful future.
Basil’s Educational Journey Begins
As a child, Basil learned the value of the healthcare field by being exposed to the service and compassion medical professionals use in their daily lives. He quickly decided that he, too, would best be able to assist others by entering the healthcare profession.
His first step in achieving his goal was to enroll at the University of Michigan in 2011, where his course concentration was in pre-medicine. In his first year at the University, Basil earned 14 credit hours. While completing his undergraduate coursework in that first year, he was also studying for his Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification. He received his certification in 2012 and faced a decision that would alter his educational path. His decision was to pursue work as an EMT, putting his University education on hold temporarily. He also joined the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT), which is a professional organization that provides education and support to the nation’s first responders.
Professional and Educational Milestones
In 2013, he completed his coursework and certification exam to become an official Health Care Provider by the American Heart Association. The following year, impressed by the devotion, expertise and advanced lifesaving measures that paramedic personnel provided to those in whom life and death depends heavily on the level of care they receive following the call to 911, Basil decided to take the extra step and to pursue paramedic career. He enrolled in 2014 in paramedic school and for a full year, completed all courses, passed all examinations and above all, provided under supervision lifesaving measures to those in desperate need for emergent interventions. He passed the final examination and attained his Paramedic certification. As part of his paramedic curriculum he completed certification as provider in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). ACLS and PALS are advanced lifesaving certifications typically achieved by healthcare professionals like physicians, registered nurses, and nurse practitioners. Basil knew these advanced skills would be beneficial in his current role as an EMT/Paramedic and in his future.
A Bright Future
In 2019, Basil completed his 20-hour National Continued Competency Program (NCCP) certification required of active EMTs. This certification program is administered by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. Even though he has already achieved so much in his young life, he is poised to achieve incredible success as a whichever profession he chooses in the coming years.
