Bart Deplancke graduated as a bio-engineer at Ghent University in 1998. After pursuing a PhD in Immunobiology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), he did his postdoc initially at Harvard Medical School and then at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in systems biology and functional genomics. At the end of 2007, he
became Assistant Professor in the Institute of Bio-engineering in the School of Life Sciences at the EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland where he was promoted to a tenured position at the Associate Professor level in 2014.
As an independent group leader of the Laboratory of Systems Biology and Genetics (LSBG) at the EPFL, he succeeded in establishing and sustaining an internationally recognized, interdisciplinary research group with expertise in systems genetics, bioinformatics, and regulatory genomics. Prof. Deplancke has already published >55 peer-reviewed articles (>3,000 citations, h-index=27; Source: Google Scholar), is currently also guest Professor at Ghent University and a recent member of the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB).
