Dr. Azalea Kim is a physician, product, and payer/provider operations leader who blends expertise in complex clinical care, applied data science & AI, health IT and interoperability, and value-based contracts to design and implement high performance care systems.
She believes that all patients, especially the marginalized, deserve an
exceptional experience from a high fidelity, purpose built system of care. That system of care must be human-led, data-driven, tech-enabled, and built with intention for scale to deliver on real outcomes that matter to patients and caregivers.
As Chief Product Officer her teams span product (engagement/experience, clinical, data, analytics, reporting), data science, design, user research, evaluation, marketing, payer integrations, and go to market strategy and execution. She and team are deeply embedded in care model co-design and innovation, clinical operations, sales, and growth. She is accountable to create and execute a shared services data and tech strategy that drives performance for the company and vision of tech enablement that defines our model of care at scale. This includes delivering high quality and evidence-based care, appropriate and compliant clinical documentation, managing total cost of care, and delivering an experience that engages and retains patients.
Azalea has spent the past decade in the trenches of value-based care. She cut her teeth on integrated behavioral care for Montefiore’s Pioneer ACO. At Duke Health, she was Medical Director for Health Data Science and certified Epic builder, leading data science and informatics teams to create algorithms and EHR workflows that enable performance in VBC. As Chief of Staff to the CMO at Blue Cross NC, she led communications and transformation initiatives for statewide ACO operations for health systems, independent practices, and innovative startups entering the VBC space. As Chief Medical Officer of Optum Behavioral Care she designed tech-enabled workflows to integrate virtual behavioral health, risk-bearing PCPs, and payer (physical health and BH carve out) managed care operations. She later led care redesign at Cityblock Health as Chief Care Innovation and Program Design Officer. Throughout this time, she was PCP for patients at highest risk for negative health outcomes and high utilization of acute care due to combined physical, behavioral, and social needs at Duke’s safety net clinic.
