Dr. Chiocca is a world-renowned physician-scientist, whose clinical and scientific expertise revolves around the surgical/medical treatment of human brain tumors and understanding their biology and applying novel therapeutics to their treatment, including those that are viral-based. In this respect, his research laboratory has provided several
contributions to the utilization of oncolytic viruses in tumor therapy.
In addition, Dr. Chiocca’s laboratory has active programs in microRNA biology and drug discovery. Dr. Chiocca has trained numerous postdoctoral fellows, students and mentored junior faculty. In addition to this he has been the local and national PI of several clinical trials using gene- and virus-based therapies for malignant glioma.
