Anthony Harrington is Chair of the Managing Board and head of the Brazil and Latin America practice at Albright Stonebridge Group, a leading commercial diplomacy and global strategy firm.Mr. Harrington served as U.S. Ambassador to Brazil from 1999-2001, having been nominated by President Clinton and confirmed by the U.S. Senate with bipartisan
support in a record twelve days. During this time as Ambassador, he oversaw unprecedented bilateral engagement between the two countries.
He carried out a mandate to upgrade the level of bilateral relations between the U.S. and Brazil and worked closely with both U.S. and Brazilian companies to strengthen business and economic ties. In recognition of his accomplishments, he received the Order of Rio Branco, Grand Cross from the Government of Brazil.Prior to his government service, Mr. Harrington was a senior corporate partner at Hogan Lovells U.S. LLP, a leading international law firm. In addition, Mr. Harrington co-founded several telephone/technology firms, including Telecom*USA, the fourth-largest U.S. long-distance telephone company prior to its merger with MCI. As a holding company investor, he was also instrumental in the creation of Mindspring, Intercall and PowerTel.
Mr. Harrington currently serves as international strategic advisor to Hogan Lovells and is a member of the Managing Committee of Albright Capital Management, a member of the U.S. Department of State Advisory Committee on International Communications and Information Policy, and a trustee of the Kenan Institute for Private Enterprise. He is also Chair Emeritus of the Brazil-U.S. Business Council and Chair of the Advisory Council of the Brazil Institute at the Woodrow Wilson Center.Previously, Mr. Harrington served as Chairman of the President’s Intelligence Oversight Board, Vice Chairman of the President’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board, and a member of the congressionally created Commission on the Roles and Capabilities of the U.S. Intelligence Community.Mr. Harrington received his B.A. degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a Morehead Scholar, and his J.D. degree from the Duke University School of Law.
