Andrew Sappey received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Kenyon College, Gambier, Ohio in 1982 and his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1988. Dr. Sappey continued his education during a two-year post-doctoral stint at SRI International, Menlo Park, California in the Molecular Physics Laboratory
developing laser-based combustion diagnostics. After SRI, Dr. Sappey took a position at Los Alamos National Laboratory as a staff member where he worked on laser-based diagnostic methods for a variety of applications. In 1994, Dr. Sappey left Los Alamos to pursue a career in the private sector. This experience included working at ADA Technologies on several SBIR programs to develop optical sensors for stack monitoring applications. In December of 1999, Dr. Sappey co- founded Zolo Technologies, to develop optical multiplexers for the telecom market. After the telecom market failed to meet expectations, Dr. Sappey worked to redefine Zolo’s mission, eventually adopting Zolo’s current multiplexed combustion sensor focus. Dr. Sappey is the author of numerous scientific papers, articles, and patents.
