Amina Elahi is a reporter at the Chicago Tribune’s Blue Sky Innovation section, where she covers entrepreneurship and innovation in Chicago.
Previously, Amina contributed to Chicago Grid, Popular Science, Built In Chicago and Sprout Social Insights. In addition to writing and editing, she enjoys photography and design. Amina graduated from the
Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in 2010 with degrees in journalism and psychology. While there, she was an editor at North by Northwestern and Al Bayan (which she co-founded).
In her free time, Amina runs PAPER/PLATES, where she explores her love of literature and food. The blog has received coverage in DailyCandy, Refinery29 and Pubslush.
In February 2011, Amina won first place in the “Best Sports, Arts and Entertainment” category at the New America Media Ethnic Media Awards in Washington, D.C. Her winning piece, “Banned Practice — Music Censorship,” told the story of Deeyah, a Pakistani-Norweigan singer whose experiences with racism and sexism led her to give up her career as a young woman.
