Alok Swaroop, VP, Strategic Initiatives, RBC
Appointed recently to VP, Strategic Initiatives role, Alok’s primary focus is managing financial and reputation risk by driving a step-change in Operational efficiencies in a strategic and sustainable manner, in line with company’s mission to become a data-driven and simpler organization.
Since
joining RBC in 2004, Alok has held a variety of roles in areas of Risk & Controls Design and Oversight, Capital, Sector/Country Risk Analytics, Business Architecture & Implementation. In these roles, multiple Initiatives of long-term change were successfully adopted helping reduce overall risk posture of the Bank, all through a period of high growth. Prior to joining RBC, Alok was Financial Engineer with Algorithmics (now IBM Risk Analytics) consulting and implementing advanced approaches to risk management for institutions in Europe and North America.
Alok started his career as a Trader with an Oil & Gas conglomerate in India, trading and hedging FX & Interest rate structures. Subsequently, Alok managed a shipping finance and risk management operations for a subsidiary of Exxon Mobil in the Middle east (Qatar/UAE)
As a champion for diversity and inclusion, Alok is the Co Chair of RBC’s D&I Council for Risk and Compliance, Canada. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Risk Management Association (RMA) Toronto Chapter and is also an active volunteer for charities helping Canadian communities address urban food wastage and homelessness.
Alok is a certified Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Masters in International Business (MBA) from Symbiosis, Pune, India and a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Statistics & Physics; and has worked in Mumbai (India), Qatar, Dubai, London, Vienna, New York, Chicago and is now based in Toronto.
