Dr. Allen Cherer is a Charlotte, North Carolina-based pediatrician and neonatologist who has dedicated his career to caring for sick newborns and supporting their families for over three decades. Dr. Cherer is very passionate about aiding newborn babies through the early stage of their lives, specifically in the context of improving their overall
health and well-being in the neonatal intensive care unit. Dr. Allen Cherer attended college at the University of Virginia, where he graduated with a B.A. in Biology. This led Dr. Cherer to earning his M.D. at the Medical College of Georgia before moving on to Pediatrics training at Korsair Children's Hospital at the University of Lousiville School of Medicine. While at the Korsair, Dr. Cherer earned the Robert G. Spurling Memorial Award for being the outstanding senior house officer. Once Allen completed his residency, he was commissioned in the United States Air Force Medical Corps, becoming the Chief of Pediatrics at the USAF Regional Hospital Mino in North Dakota. Once Dr. Cherer's military service ended, he ended up taking part in a neonatal-perinatal fellowship in the Joint Program in Neonatology at Harvard Medical School. During his time at Harvard, Dr. Allen Cherer took part in the Infant Health and Development Program, which was a national multicenter study of early intervention for low birth weight and premature infants. Results from the study continue to be published to this very day.
