Alexandre Pires has a degree in Agricultural Engineering and Animal Prodution from the Agricultural College of Coimbra, with a MSc. in animal breeding. He has advanced qualifications in the areas of laboratory animal sciences, experimental design, animal reproduction and business management. He did a post-graduate course “Advanced Programme in
Management and Innovation for Entrepreneurs” – at the Universidade Católica (2012-13).
From an early age he has identified himself with the countryside and horses and for some years ran small personal project breeding horses on a farm belonging to his family. He worked as a professional rider for the company Morgado Lusitano, SA.
He was in charge of the laboratory animal house for the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology / Faculty of Medicine at the University of Coimbra for 8 years (2004 to 2012). In February 2011, together with Isabel Fidalgo Carvalho, he founded Equigerminal, to which he now devotes himself 100%.
