Alan Schaer is the Vice President of Research and Development for ZipLine Medical.
Mr. Schaer has over 24 years of experience developing medical devices from the startup phase to consistently successful CE Mark and IDE Approvals. He was most recently Vice President of Product Development at Silk Road Medical where he led the development the
company’s system of devices for cerebral embolic protection during carotid artery stenting.
Prior to Silk Road Medical, he was Director of R&D at Paracor Medical where he brought forward a delivery system and implant for treating congestive heart failure as well as providing defibrillation therapy.
Before that Mr. Schaer led electrophysiology development programs at Atrionix (acquired by Johnson and Johnson) and Cardima (IPO) as well as balloon angioplasty with Advanced Cardiovascular Systems (now Abbott Vascular). Mr. Schaer has also independently developed devices for the treatment of GERD and Renal Denervation.
Mr. Schaer graduated cum laude with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
