Bhat has broad leadership experience in the development and discovery of peptides, proteins and bioconjugates. Most recently, he was Head of Chemistry and part of the leadership team at CovX, a research division of Pfizer, where he was responsible for chemistry development and discovery efforts as well as new technology initiatives. Bhat joined
CovX in 2003 as an early employee and contributed to building the technology platform and pipeline that resulted in the company’s acquisition by Pfizer.
He has worked extensively at the interface of small molecules and biologics, contributing to the discovery and development of five drug conjugates that entered into human clinical trials. Bhat’s technical achievements include the discovery of proprietary toxins, the development of a novel bioconjugation method for antibody drug conjugates and new targeting and delivery approaches for proteins and peptides.
Abhi received his Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry from The Ohio State University and conducted postdoctoral research in the Chemistry Department at the University of Arizona.
