The Joseph Project is a nonprofit organization that focuses on closing the justice gap for human trafficking survivors through free legal support. The organization coordinates a national network of "Legal First Responders," pro bono attorneys who address trafficking-related legal needs such as criminal record relief, family law issues,
and immigration matters. It operates an intake and referral process that identifies survivors, assesses their legal problems, and connects them with qualified counsel at no cost. The Joseph Project also develops and delivers legal training for attorneys and digital citizenship and awareness sessions for the public to improve survivor identification and prevention. In addition, it produces stories, media content, and educational resources that highlight trafficking realities and the role of law in survivor recovery.
