The new Software Defined Network (SDN) model used by Teneno is an open platform developed at Stanford University: it extracts network software functionality from expensive hardware components and hosts them in the cloud. This drastically reduces costs by using industry standard hardware devices rather than proprietary boxes; and because these costs - inexpensive to begin with – are shared across multiple users. Teneno’s subscription-based business model therefore delivers core network functionality at a fraction of the cost of traditional providers.
