Stichting Lezen promotes reading in Dutch and Frisian for children and young people through national programmes, campaigns, and research. The organization focuses on readers up to the age of eighteen, aligning existing reading-promotion activities and supporting new initiatives, methods, and tools. It administers reading promotion budgets, advises
education authorities on reading promotion policy, and commissions and disseminates research on reading behaviour and literacy. Stichting Lezen enhances the expertise of teachers, librarians, and parents, and provides information and resources through platforms such as Leesmonitor and the magazine Lezen. It organizes campaigns and competitions including The National Reading Days, The National Reading Aloud Competition, the Jonge Jury, the Inktaap, and Book Week for Young People. The foundation collaborates with libraries, schools, booksellers, publishers, universities, and other organizations to create reading-promotion networks.
